Compare a Teacher to a Doctor

Which was has more authority over their client? Is it the doctor who has the ability to save the life, or is it the teacher who has the ability to give quality to the life that was saved?

They are both helpless without each other. The doctor, as serious as the role is, knows the patient only briefly, and excercises authority for a brief time...the teacher, on the other hand, cultivates a relationship with the student over a considerably longer time, and has a much greater potential influence.
