Passive House Construction

This view shows the top plate area and floor/ceiling joists. The joists rest on the inside service frame which allows the exterior insulating layer to be framed independently to prevent thermal bridges.

This is an environmentally friendly blown or poured in insulation, 10 inches worth.

Cross section view.
From right: Interior finish (drywall in this example), service cavity may also be insulated, OS board vapour barrier when fully taped; insulating layer; strapping; air barrier; exterior finish.

This shows the thin air barrier material, which must be fully taped (below where she is pointing).

External air barrier

Shows window frame, bottom. Looks like one inch plywood.

Window frame, different approach. shows taping, sloping of flashing for drainage.
